Southern Business School is dedicated to sustainable business practices which not only protect the environment but also provide social responsibility and economic sustainability. According to Wikipedia, recycling 0.9 tons of paper saves 17 mature trees, 26 m3 of water, 2.3 m3 of landfill space, 320 liters of oil, and 4,100 kilowatt-hours (15 GJ) of electricity. 1 million cubic meters of landfill space could be saved per year if all households in South Africa recycled old paper or cardboard. The benefits of recycling are enormous as more than 5000 different products can be produced from recycled paper. Some of these products include paper money, masking tape, globes, dust masks, bandages, coffee filters, hospital gowns and egg boxes. In addition recycling reduces paper pollution and contributes to a cleaner, healthier environment.
As part of its commitment to sustainable business practices, SBS collects all waste paper generated at our offices in Johanneburg and delivers it to Laerskool Gustav Preller in Florida, Gauteng. The paper is collected by paperpickup who donate a percentage of the income to the Social Needs Fund of the primary school. The Social Needs Fund is used for any social need which may arise amongst the learners of the school. This includes paying for school outings or purchasing school shoes should a learner’s parents not be in a position to contribute financially. Southern Business School is proud to be associated with an initiative such as this and looks forward to making a continued contribution in the future.Southern Business School – making a difference!
