Southern Business School's Community Engagement
From its inception in 1994, Southern Business School has dedicated itself to making a positive difference in the lives of not only our students but of all those who call Southern Africa home. Southern Business School is fully committed to supporting community engagement initiatives which are sustainable and empowering.
Community engagement at Southern Business School is guided by the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s). Therefore initiatives which we support should fall within the ambit of these goals. The MDG’s are to: end poverty and hunger, universal education, gender equality, child health, maternal health, combating HIV/AIDS, environmental sustainability and achieving global partnership for development.
Southern Business School’s community engagement objectives for 2008 – 2010 are:
- to provide financial assistance to needy and previously disadvantaged individuals studying through Southern Business School;
- to fund and create opportunities for the empowerment of individuals and communities;
- to form partnerships with government and NGO’s for the purposes of community development;
- to implement a monitoring and evaluation system to ensure long term impact and sustainability of community engagement initiatives;
- to volunteer time and services to the community-at-large; and
- to conduct research which can contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic situation in South Africa.
In order make a positive difference in people’s lives, Southern Business School established a non-profit organisation as one of the primary vehicles for community engagement. The NPO, named Iphandezomupilo Educational Foundation, meaning roots of life
, has a vision and mission to facilitate people learning and leadership through sustainable interventions within the parameters of the Millennium Development Goals in an inclusive manner. Iphandezomupilo educational foundation is an independent entity working under the Southern Business School umbrella.
Should you wish to make a donation to the Iphandezomupilo Educational Foundation or would like to have more information about the projects in which we are involved please email Jenny Coles or phone her at 011 662 1444.
